There isn't really a gender expectation in my culture that affects me that probably means that Im not old enough to experience one yet. In today's class we read "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid we then answered some questions about it and took a writing quiz on it. Something I learned today is about gender expectations especially for women and how your parents try to raise you.

Antonio Esparza Goodman Mr. Rease Multicultural Literature 20 August 2026 I took, am Mexican. I got inspired to write my poem about this because when I lived in Mexico I often got mistaken for a tourist and overcharged at restaurants and taxis because I looked to white. In today's class we shared the poems we wrote to the whole class, then since the other classes were behind we worked on our blog post and other homeworks. My experience presenting my poem to the class was good because everyone was paying attention and being respectfully.

I cracked a joke with the wrong group and everyone reacted like I was out of my mind and I was crazy. Today in class we read the poem I want a wife, then we reflected on it and answered some questions with the group and finally we wrote 20 things a husband should be. I learned today about the standards that men hold towards women and women towards men and what they are.

Describe a time when you felt completely lost.

One time I felt completely lost was when I first started high school after I'd been homeschooled for most of my life because I didn't know almost anyone and I wasn't used to all the work. In today's class we learned about gender role in different cultures, then we filled out a worksheet. Something I learned was that gender roles are similar in many cultures but also very different in some aspects.

Prompt Response: I think I've adapted pretty well to the demands so far. My only challenge is remembering to do the homework and turn it in. Summary: In today's class we read a poem about a black person who said he is also America and talks about how in the future there will be equality for black people. Reflection: I learned today about the person who wrote the poem, that he wasn't angry and he kept on living trying to be happy.

If someone tried to understand you using only your race, what important things would that person miss? Describe at least three other parts of your cultural identity that help make you who you are.

Prompt Response: They would miss a lot of stuff like the language I speak or where I'm from. Summary: In today's class we watched some videos on cultural identity and the culture you are born into or your skin color and what you identify as. Reflection: Something I learned in today's class is that culture is defined by the people around you not your skin color.
